Judy Jones. An Official Democratic Candidate For Member Of The State Assembly. 73rd District

Education

Judy believes investment in education is an investment in the marketplace. Well-educated, highly-trained personnel earn more, contribute more and consume more than poor, uneducated laborers. A robust economy requires innovative, intelligent employees to match the challenges American business faces today and tomorrow. To be economically competitive in the 21st century, California must regain its status as the best education system in America. With the increasing demand for math and science along with new business techniques, we must improve our education system and increase the opportunities for Americans industries to have access to highly educated, well-trained U.S. citizens to lead the world in business, health, agriculture and military fields. To keep businesses in our district we must supply a workforce to fill their needs. Judy believes government and businesses, as well as. families with children have a major stake in filling this need.

Judy believes California's education system should:
  • Provide free, quality education to all of California's children in a clean and safe environment.
  • In order to compete in an ever changing technological world, increase standards in math, science and computer technologies.
  • Reward students excelling in math, science and computer technologies with grants and/or scholarships to California universities and colleges, especially if they are willing to teach for at least two years after graduating.
  • Support lower not higher tuition to CSU and UC systems by encouraging business and community contributions.
  • Support expansion of the California Community Colleges because they not only offer a start to those who can't afford the UC system but also because they train our nurses, firemen and police.
  • Since teachers are our student's conduit to the future, compensate them accordingly.
  • Expand after school programs to aggressively counter gang influences.
  • Encourage businesses to participate in the education system by offering incentives such as a point system to reduce their taxes.
